Stephen W. Fugale

Steve Fugale is currently the Chief Information Officer for Villanova University where he is responsible the technology operations, infrastructure, applications, and strategy for all aspects of the university. In addition he chairs the University Strategic Planning and Information Technology Committees. He also serves on the board of directors for several regional companies. Villanova University was recently ranked as the #1 Most Connected Campus by PC Magazine and the Princeton Review and received CIO magazine’s CIO100 award. Villanova has also been honored by the Web Marketing Association and Computerworld’s Honors Program.

Steve founded The Bernova Group, an independent business and technology consultancy, focused on business strategy, technology evaluation and planning. His clients included medical/clinical software, financial services, technology, venture capital and private equity companies. Steve also provides technology consulting for Gerson Lehrman Group, Vista Research – Society of Industry Leaders, Coleman Research Group and Reuters Insight.

Steve served as the Senior Vice President/Chief Information Officer for CIGNA’s Group Insurance Division, a $2.1 billion provider of Life, Accident and Disability Insurance. While at CIGNA Steve managed a staff of over 175 employees across all technical and application disciplines. In addition, Steve served on the Board of Directors for the Life Insurance Company of North America. He played a key role in due diligence processes for both operational and book of business acquisitions. Steve’s career at CIGNA spanned over 18 years in a variety of IT executive roles.

Steve is a graduate of Villanova University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration.

Steve has been involved with numerous professional associations and industry groups including: Society of Information Management, EDUCAUSE, The Harvard Group and the Profitability Institute, IVAN’s Advisory Group, LOMA P&C Systems Group, Gartner IT Executive/EXP Program, CIO Forum & Executive IT Summit Executive Advisory Council, Philadelphia Area CIO Roundtable, Gerson Lehrman Group Council Scholar - Leader, CIO Executive Summit Governing Body and the Radnor Business Association. He is a former instructor for the Insurance Society of Philadelphia.

Neil McCarthy

Neil McCarthy is the former Vice President and Chief Information Officer at Wawa, Inc., a $6 billion dollar convenience food and fuel retailer with 570 stores in the mid-Atlantic area. A 22-year technology veteran, Neil brings extensive operating, technology implementation and strategic planning experience to his clients. The Acentio Group provides executive business technology consulting, research, advisory services and M&A support to both established enterprise organizations and emerging Web 2.0 companies.

Prior to working with The Acentio Group, Neil spent 26 years at Wawa, Inc. serving in a variety of roles within Field Operations and IT, most recently as Vice President and CIO. As CIO, Neil’s responsibilities included development of IT strategic plans, business integration for information technology, consistent delivery of cost-effective solutions to ensure Wawa met its business goals, and overall responsibility for day to day operations. Among his key accomplishments were the implementation of ERP solutions, customer touch screen ordering systems, improved supply chain solutions, and the creation of an enterprise Project Management Office for IT and Business project deliver.

Prior to his role as CIO, Neil was the director of IT Business Solutions where he deployed solutions for inventory systems, scanning technology, fuel supply, procurement and accounting, labor management, production planning and human resource management.

Neil is a graduate of Rutgers University with a joint degree in Business Administration and Computer Science. He holds an MBA and a Masters of Information Science from LaSalle University. He serves on Villanova University’s CIO advisory Board and is a member of the Philadelphia Mural Arts Program’s (MAP) board of directors. MAP is a non profit organization dedicated to improving inner city children’s lives by exposing them to art. Neil currently resides with his wife and children in West Chester, PA, a suburb of Philadelphia.
